A Challenging Start For Kapato Reigns
Kapato Reigns faced significant challenges early in life. After losing his mother, who had been his main financial support, shortly after high school graduation, he found himself in a tough situation. To make ends meet, he journeyed to Nagodi, Bolgatanga, seeking work at the forestry department, where his uncle was employed. However, the timber milling site only offered limited income, and a severe leg injury forced him to abandon that job.
The Struggle for Education
With limited options, Kapato moved to Accra to live with a step-brother in 2012. He secured a job as security personnel in a gated community, but the meager monthly pay of Ghc 80.00 compelled him to search for better opportunities. He eventually found employment at MAGSEN’S LIMITED and later at ACP factory for night duty as a security personnel. However, he didn’t let the challenges deter him from pursuing his dream of higher education.
Embracing Music as a Passion
Growing up in a family where music was ingrained, Kapato had a natural inclination towards singing. From the catholic church choir to school competitions, music was an integral part of his life. Initially, he focused on gospel music, but due to criticisms and his roles in various institutions, he couldn’t explore his full potential. It wasn’t until after completing his nursing diploma at ZUARUNGU NTC that he fully embraced his passion for music.

The Turning Point
Kapato’s turning point came when he watched a Hollywood movie titled “Let It Shine.” Inspired by the film, he decided to do a cover for one of the songs, “DON’T RUN AWAY.” This venture led him to DJ GIZY, who granted him his first radio interview, marking the beginning of his musical journey. Kapato Reigns was well on his way to becoming a prominent figure in the music industry.
Achievements of Kapato Reigns
In both 2020 and 2021, he achieved something amazing – he was crowned the traditional artist of the year in the Upper East Region.
Then, in 2022, he took part in the “KAAKI OWN THE MIC” competition in the same region. Can you believe it? Out of 32 competitors, he emerged as the ultimate winner!
Do you know what’s even cooler? He received numerous nominations from all over the country, from the North to the South. But you know what? he decided to turn them all down. Why? Because he believes that investing more money in building his brand and recording more music is way more valuable than chasing awards that don’t really bring tangible benefits.

Not content with just nursing, Kapato proved his versatility by wowing audiences with his music during the Nurses Week celebration at Ho Teaching Hospital. A talented musician, composer, and dancer, Kapato and his crew left attendees in awe during the event. The recognition he received as the Upper East Region’s Traditional Artiste for 2020 added further accolades to his name.
